HYBRID BATTERY SOLAR ELECTRIC VEHICLE (HBSEV)

HYBRID BATTERY SOLAR ELECTRIC VEHICLE (HBSEV)

The concept can be characterized as a vehicle powertrain configuration with two or more different Energy sources. The so-called primary energy source should guarantee autonomy, while the secondary energy source ensures recuperative capacity. An example of a primary source is the traditional Internal Combustion Engine, which uses fossil fuel as a high density energy carrier.
This attribute of the energy carrier ensures a long travel distance without the need for frequent refueling. On the other hand, combustion is an irreversible process, which means that once the fuel is burned it cannot be regained. To provide the capacity for recuperation, a secondary, reversible energy source is embarked, typically a battery and an electric machine. This is the case of the dominant hybrid powertrain configuration: the HYBRID BATTERY SOLAR ELECTRIC VEHICLE (HBSEV). In which the ICE guarantees autonomy and batteries with an electric machine ensure recuperation.

The motivation for developing the hybrid powertrain lies in the combination of an ICE based vehicle with high autonomy and a HYBRID BATTERY SOLAR ELECTRIC VEHICLE (HBSEV) with zero direct emissions and a recuperation capacity .This affords several synergy advantages, such as ICE downsizing, energy recuperation and elimination of idling.
